'How Notorious kidnap kingpin Evans is being treated at the Maximum Kirikiri prison' - Lagos State Controller reveals

'How Notorious kidnap kingpin Evans is being treated at the Maximum Kirikiri prison' - Lagos State Controller reveals

The Controller of Prisons in Lagos State, Tunde Ladipo, has revealed how notorious kidnap kingpin Chukwudidumeme Onuamadike, Aka Evans is being treated at the Kirikiri Prisons in Lagos.

In a recent interview with the Vanguard, the state controller said there is no preferential treatment for Evans, rather he's being treated like every other inmate in the prison.

He said:

"We have laws rules and regulations that guide them. Evans is like every other inmate in the prison. There is nothing special about him. It is just that there is so much hype about him being a suspected kidnapper. As far as I am concerned, he is an ordinary inmate. So far, so good. There is no way he can even go above the law because he can't have that chance. We have ensured that our prisons are secure. So there is no cause for alarm. "In the cases of inmates making use of telephone and other facilities, I assure you that if any case like that comes up and we investigate and find it to be true, we will not hesitate to take positive action. For now, I assure you that we don't have such thing in our prisons."

Speaking about the congestion of prisons, He said:

"In concrete terms, we have been lucky that the former Chief Judge of Lagos State came to our rescue when we had problems in Badagry Prisons. She visited all the prisons because I had to disturb her to come to our aid by visiting the prisons and, in the process of going round, she was able to release quite a number of inmates. "In Badagry Prisons, she released 80 inmates, Ikoyi 44, Kirikiri Medium 117 and Kirikiri female 13. The Minister of Justice has also been very much concerned about the congestion of prisons in Lagos. I and stakeholders met on one or two occasions to look at the way forward. I have been appealing to well-meaning Nigerians to help us pay the fines of inmates who cannot afford to pay those fines. And many Nigerians are coming to help. "In particular, a philanthropist who wanted to feed inmates came to my office and I told him that our major headache is the decongestion of our prisons. I pleaded that he should help us pay fines for inmates who could not afford it. Luckily, he was able to release 200 of such prisoners from the medium prison in Kirikiri."

The Billionaire kidnapper is being held on a two-count charge of conspiracy and kidnapping. However, more charges are likely to follow.

“HE TOLD ME NOT TO BE NAIVE” – LUPITA NYONG’O SHARES SEXUAL HARASSMENT EXPERIENCE WITH HARVEY WEINSTEIN

“HE TOLD ME NOT TO BE NAIVE” – LUPITA NYONG’O SHARES SEXUAL HARASSMENT EXPERIENCE WITH HARVEY WEINSTEIN

Kenyan-Mexican actress Lupita Nyong'o has joined dozens of other women who have come forward to say Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein had sexually harassed them, earlier in their careers.

Lupita in a New York Times opinion piece on Thursday wrote that she met Weinstein in 2011, at an awards ceremony in Berlin, while she was still a student at the Yale School of Drama.

He had been introduced to her as the "the most powerful producer in Hollywood," she wrote.

Wary of both strangers and the "intentions of men," Lupita had sought others' opinion of Weinstein, looking to vet him.

"Keep Harvey in your corner." a female producer had said. "He is a good man to know in the business, but just be careful around him. He can be a bully."

They had exchanged contacts, and although she continued to refer to him as Mr. Weinstein, he insisted she call him by his first name.

Not long after, he invited her to attend a screening of a film with his family at home in Westport, not far away from New Haven where she was staying at the time.

They had had lunch at a restaurant first, and although she ordered juice, Weinstein insisted she had vodka and diet soda, telling the waiter, "Get her what I tell you to get her. I'm the one paying the bill."

When the drink arrived, along with water, she had only the water, and Weinstein had called her stubborn.

Watching the movie in his home, maybe 15 minutes in, Weinstein said he wanted to show her something.

She wanted to see the movie, she said, but Weinstein insisted, saying they would return shortly.

He led her into a bedroom, his bedroom, and said he wanted to massage her.

"I thought he was joking at first," Lupita wrote. But he wasn't.

Panicking, she offered to give him one instead, hoping it could put her in control of the situation.

While massaging his back, Weinstein said he wanted to take his pants off. She said no, and because he insisted, she walked away, standing by the door frame and telling him: "If we're not going to watch the film, I really should head back to school." He called her stubborn again.

He had his driver return her home, gifting her a boxed collection of "The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency," an HBO show that he had produced.

The next time he invited her over, it was to a staged reading of his new Broadway show, "Finding Neverland," which, feeling unsafe, she attended with 2 male friends.

Weinstein was on his best behavior, and she believed they had been able to get past their awkward beginnings, and could now sustain a professional relationship.

That was why she could accept and attend alone a screening of "W.E." he invited her to. After the screening, they would have drinks.

As planned, after the screening, they sat to eat at Tribeca Grill, and hadn't even began eating, when Weinstein said: "Let's cut to the chase. I have a private room upstairs where we can have the rest of our meal."

She refused, saying she'd rather eat at the restaurant.

He asked her not to be naive, that if she wanted to be an actress she had to be willing to do this sort of thing.

"You have no idea what you are passing up," he said.

"With all due respect, I would not be able to sleep at night if I did what you are asking, so I must pass," she said.

Afraid of her career, "I just want to know that we are good," she told him.

"I don't know about your career, but you'll be fine," he said.

Photos: Police arrest 13 Nigerian immigrants in Bangkok for illegal entry, overstaying and romance scam

Immigration police Wednesday morning, October 18, searched a Bangkok condominium and rounded up 13 Nigerians for illegal entry into the Kingdom and overstaying their visa, as well as engaging in a romance scam.

Pol Lt-General Sutthipong Wongpin, the acting Immigration Bureau commissioner, led officers who searched six buildings of a condominium complex on Romklao road in Klong Sam Prawet subdistrict of Lat Krabang district at 10am and made the arrests.

Sutthipong said police searched the condominium after two Nigerians were arrested last week on charges of conducting a romance scam in Thailand. Information provided by the two men prompted police to conduct the search.

The immigration officers found 19 Nigerians living at the condominium. Six of them were found to have unlawfully entered the country and five of them had overstayed their visas.

Sutthipong said two other Nigerians were suspected of being involved in the romance scam.
Police also seized 15 passbooks, seven notebooks, 12 phones, one tablet and nine passports from the suspects.

Sutthipong said the two romance-scam suspects also had Facebook accounts in other names and used Western men's photographs as their profile pictures.

Liberian girlfriend of Nigerian man drowns their two children because she was afraid of being deported from the US

Liberian girlfriend of Nigerian man drowns their two children because she was afraid of being deported from the US

A 30-year-old Liberian mother was arrested on Monday in Delaware,Wilmington after she was accused of drowning her son and his brother, in a bathtub because she was afraid of being deported.

Kula Pelima was charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of her 3-month-old son named Solomon Epelle who was her biological child and the baby's 5-year-old half-brother, Alex Epelle, who was her Nigerian boyfriend's son with another woman. The couple lived together in Wilmington, and she helped care for both children.

According to FOX 29, Wilmington police stated they were called to the apartment on the 800 block of West 9th Street around 3:45 a.m. EDT Monday morning.

Pelima was worried she was going to be deported because her Nigerian boyfriend, Victor Epelle, had been detained by agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Court documents stated Pelima had contacted the police concerned she was going to be deported because her visa had lapsed, according to local news station WDEL.

Wilmington Police Chief Robert Tracy said the police had responded to her home at that time and assured her no one was going to come for her.

Tracy, however, did not say Pelima was an illegal immigrant but cited court documents saying she had immigrated to the United States from Liberia at age 10 and was living in the country legally.

When police saw the children then, they were awake and well, leading the police to feel the children were not in danger.

However, they returned about four hours later after Pelima had called 911 saying she had drowned the two children.

According to local news station, WDEL, Pelima said she dropped Solomon in the bathtub and turned on the water and left him on his back as the tub filled after she plugged the drain. She then physically assaulted the 5-year-old before walking him to the bathroom and held his head under water until he stopped moving.

"She was pretty matter of fact about admission that the two children were dead. Our officers discovered them in the back bathtub," Tracy said.

Upon the arrival of the police, she showed them to the bathtub where officers found the two boys' bodies. The gas for the stove was also switched on in the house.

Describing the deaths as tragic, Tracy said Tuesday:

"We all have the questions: Why would someone go through and do what they've done. We don't have the answers either."

Pelima is currently being held at the Delores J. Baylor Women's Correctional Institution on a $2 million cash bond.

Pelima's boyfriend, Epelle, 38, was taken into custody by immigration authorities in Pennsylvania on Sept. 14. He was in the United States legally, but he had violated the terms of his status, ICE said. It wasn't immediately clear what he had done.

He was released from custody on Monday on humanitarian grounds after being notified of the deaths of his sons.

'We won't die if you don't return to us' PDP replies Obasanjo

'We won't die if you don't return to us' PDP replies Obasanjo

On Tuesday the Chairman of the National Caretaker Committee of PDP, Ahmed Makarfi, paid former president Olusegun Obasanjo, a visit in Abeokuta, Ogun state. After the visit, Obasanjo was asked by journalists if the meeting was centered on him returning to the party whose membership card he tore in February 2015. Replying the journalists, Obasanjo said he will never return to PDP as a dog doesn't go back to it's vomit."I have told the chairman that I was in the PDP before but not now. God forbid, see when dog vomits, it will go back to eat its vomit, no. I have said no partisan politics for me again, but Nigeria is my passion until death do us apart. And anything that concerns Nigeria, the good of Nigeria, you'll see my involvement. So, the chairman has come to greet me and I greet am, and now that we have greeted ourselves, the chairman will be going, you gentlemen and ladies of the press, you can now go, leave the chairman alone." he saidPDP members have now replied him saying the former president who was one-time the chairman of the party's board of trustees, can do as he pleases as they would not die without him. The party spoke through its National spokesperson, Prince Dayo Adeyeye"He has said it before. We are not going to force him. No individual is bigger than the party. Obasanjo has the right to hold his opinion. But the PDP will not die, either he joins us or not. We respect his opinion. There's nothing to say more than that. He is an individual and we respect him." he said
