Filmmaker Kunle Agboola has kidney disease, requires transplant

Kunle Agboola, the producer of Idan Irawo, a show aired on Africa Magic, has kidney disease.

Agboola is said to have been undergoing weekly dialysis at the Gbagada General Hospital, Lagos, for some time.

His kidney disease, according to a statement by Michael Alonge, is at an advanced stage.

"According to his medical doctors, he is already stage 5 which is an advanced stage of chronic kidney disease and if we need to keep him alive to continue from where he stopped with life and his entertaining show, we need to support him with our finances," said Alonge.

"Agboola is in dire need of everyone' support in whatever way you can."

The dialysis has reportedly gulped all the money Agboola has and he now requires financial assistance for a kidney transplant.

"From the tests and diagnosis carried out by medical experts, he was informed that he would need about $40, 800 (N14.8Million) for the cost of Kidney transplant, flight, accommodation for three people, (himself, kidney donor, and caregiver) to carry out the kidney
transplant operation at Columbia Asia Hospital in India."

"Notable actress, Mercy Aigbe, having being intimated by Alonge Michael concerning his state of health, paid him a visit today, recorded a video of him in his present condition for her Instagram fans and followers to come to his aid financially.

"Mercy has also promised to champion the cause to raise a required fund from friends, family and lovers of Nollywood films for Mr. Agboola to undergo the Kidney transplant in India."

The information to make donation to Agboola's proposed surgery can be obtained from Mercy Aigbe's Instagram page.

3 friends rape 14-yr-old girl, forces her to perform sex acts on them after they blackmailed her with sex tape

3 friends rape 14-yr-old girl, forces her to perform sex acts on them after they blackmailed her with sex tape

Three young men made a 14-year-old girl perform sexual favours after blackmailing her with a sex tape, a court has heard.

Mickelle Alexander and Tommy Kitchenside, both 20, along with Faustein Riley, 19, allegedly abused the girl after Alexander obtained video footage involving the teen.

Alexander threatened to put the film 'all over social media' unless she had sex with him and took part in sordid activity with his friends, jurors were told.

She was made to perform sex acts on the trio and raped by Alexander on three occasions, Inner London Crown Court heard.

Alexander, Kitchenside and Riley, who is not before the court, are variously charged with 14 sexual offences.

Prosecutor David Harounoff said the girl came from a 'troubled background', often running away from the foster homes she lived in.

'On 31 May 2016, she went missing and the police took the view that this was "high risk missing",' said Mr Harounoff.

She was found a day later after police launched an investigation to trace her.

A foster carer later retrieved an item of the girl's underwear from her laundry basket and gave them to police, who discovered intimate samples belonging to Alexander, jurors heard.

'How it got there will be the submissions to you by the prosecution,' said Mr Harounoff.

The girl told police she knew Alexander from the Worcester Park area of south London and met him through a friend.

She had stayed over at his house one time she went missing, but they didn't have sex.

'She said he was nice to her and used to look after her,' said Mr Harounoff.

The girl later admitted she had sex with Alexander at an address in Mitcham where she had met his friend Tommy.

'A video was taken by someone which shows her [performing a sex act on] another person,' said Mr Harounoff.

'She said Mr Alexander had gotten hold of the video and made her perform [a sex act] on him, and she said she had sex with him.'

In an interview with police, she said her relationship with Alexander had quickly developed after he asked for her number and suggested they meet up.

She told Alexander, who said he was 18 or 19, she could bunk off school to see him at his or Kitchenside's home, jurors heard.

'He must have known her age,' said Mr Harounoff.

'She says when she went round there they were drinking vodka and she says Mr Alexander showed her the video then said if she didn't do stuff with him he would put that video on social media.

'I don't think there will be any dispute that this video exists – the dispute will be whether Mr Alexander blackmailed and threatened her.'She said Mr Alexander was fine on his own but his demeanour would change when he was with Kitchenside and Riley.'She said there was no sexual activity with Mr Alexander until she saw the video.'He told her "this is a way for me to get you to do stuff for me now".'He asked her to give him a b****** and she said she had no choice because he said he would put the video all over social media.'He then said she had to do this for his mates.'

The girl said she initially refused to have sex with Alexander but relented after he said 'what about the video?', jurors were told.

He allegedly then told her: 'Now my mates know you are giving me a b****** they want it.'

She asked him if his friends had seen the video and Alexander said they hadn't, the court heard.

'She said she had [performed sex acts] on Mr Kitchenside and Mr Riley,' said Mr Harounoff.

In June, she had sex with Alexander, jurors were told.

'When she describes it, you will have no doubt that it wasn't consensual,' said Mr Harounoff.'She says she was feeling like c***.'

When he was arrested Alexander said he didn't know the girl involved and had been in a long-term relationship until October.

He said he had no idea how his DNA got on the teenager's underwear because he hadn't slept with anyone but his partner during that time.

Alexander later admitted he knew the complainant but said she instigated the sexual activity.

He said he didn't think his friend Riley knew her, and when asked about Kitchener he said: 'I know about four people called Tommy'.

Kitchener and Riley gave short prepared statements to police denying the allegations.

Alexander, of no fixed address, denies four counts of causing a child to engage in sexual activity, three of rape and three alternative charges of sexual activity with a child.

Kitchenside, of no fixed address, and Riley, of Towpath Way, Croydon, both deny two counts each of causing a child to engage in sexual activity.

The trial continues.

Burna Boy speaks on working with Grammy winners, Afro-fusion genre

Burna Boy speaks on working with Grammy winners, Afro-fusion genre

With Afropop fast becoming Africa's biggest musical export, Burna Boy has resolutely stuck to his own genre, having pioneered a unique sound called Afro-fusion.During his 2016 'Homecoming Concert' at London's Hammersmith Apollo, the fans' reaction, turnout, and reception of his songs suggested that his merger of different sounds had some semblance of mass appeal. The singer has over the years proven to be consistent in his genre as well as comfortable being in a different lane from his counterparts in the Nigerian music industry. In an interview with The Native, the singer was asked to explain his process of creating music, and he couldn't help but re-emphasise his musical identity.Burna Boy said: "I'm not a rapper, or a singer, I'm not even an Afrobeats singer, I'm an Afro-Fusionist, it's a spiritual genre of music, it just comes. You get chosen and it just works out for you."The singer further explains: "It's fusion because it's everything. Whatever the spirit decides, that's what it's going to be."Burna Boy also disclosed that he has done "a million" collaborations with international artistes, including Grammy winners. And in his usual self-assured manner, the singer added that he "never approached" any of the people he's worked with.He said some of the recordings will be released in 2017."I've done a million of them, you're going to hear too many next year, it's not a secret, there are features with Grammy winners and all that," he said."I've never actually approached people before, I think that's what happens when you're original and real, you get me? There's going to be an attraction when your style is clear."

80 PERCENT OF CANCER CASES IN NIGERIA CURABLE, HEALTH MINISTER SAYS

80 PERCENT OF CANCER CASES IN NIGERIA CURABLE, HEALTH MINISTER SAYS

The Minister of Health, Isaac Adewole, yesterday said that 80 percent of cancer cases are curable even as he disclosed that the Ministry's database shows that 50 percent of corpses flown into the country involve cancer-related deaths, Vanguard reports.

Adewole, who spoke during a symposium tagged: "Cancer in Nigeria," organised by the Ministry in collaboration with the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH, explained that 40 percent of cancer can be prevented with healthy lifestyle while another 40 per cent if detected early can be cured.

Identifying that cancer was a major problem in developing world and has been estimated that between 25 to 30 million people were living with cancer worldwide, he said cancer has been a major cause of death in developing countries like Nigeria due to late presentation.

"For us in the developing world for many years, the emphasis has been on communicable diseases, infections and so on, but as we begin to change our lifestyle," he said.

"By eating westernised food, living a sedentary life, smoking, either primarily or secondarily, we are bound to face cancer as a challenge," he said.

The minister said when cancers are detected early; they can be cured because for most cancers aside from breast cancer, can be removed either by drugs, radiotherapy or surgeries.
